What is SabbWatch?

SabbWatch is the University of Kent's only independent student-led news show! We focus on reporting what the Kent Union sabbatical officers (sabbs for short) have or haven't been up to recently, as well as reporting on other major campus events, such as elections and strikes, and more light-hearted content.

Who are the Sabbs?

There are five different paid officer positions within Kent Union; in February each year students have the opportunity to put themselves forward as candidates in the Leadership Elections. After a few weeks of campaigning every student at Kent has the opportunity to vote for who they think will be the best person for each role. Five students are elected, and over the next academic year they work on projects to improve the student experience at Kent.

Why does the show exist?

Up until recently the officers were elected on a manifesto; a list of promises they made to the students at Kent that they work to fulfill once in office. Unfortunately, sometimes that didn't happen. SabbWatch exists to ensure that the officers are held accountable to the students they are paid to represent.

What's the goal?

The goal of the show is to stop! Once all the officers are providing quality weekly updates on what they've been doing, in a way that is accessible at any time to all students, then the show will no longer be needed. At that point we can retire happily and just produce special episodes focused around big campus events, like the elections we mentioned previously.
